Joseph Stein
Founder | Educator | Industry Speaker | Owner
Joseph Stein founded Lava GR Auto Detailing in 2017 with a vision of creating more than just another detailing shop. His goal was to build a company known for exceptional craftsmanship, honest recommendations, and a relentless commitment to continuous improvement.
Over the years, that vision has grown into one of West Michigan’s most trusted vehicle appearance and restoration companies. Through advanced education, national competition, professional certifications, and hands-on experience, Joseph has developed expertise in paint correction, ceramic coatings, contamination remediation, insurance restoration, fleet maintenance, and premium vehicle care.
A lifelong learner, Joseph studied Biology with a Pre-Med emphasis at Grand Valley State University, where he developed an analytical approach to problem-solving that continues to influence the way Lava GR diagnoses contamination issues, evaluates vehicle surfaces, and develops restoration processes. His commitment to understanding both the science and craftsmanship behind detailing has become a defining characteristic of the company.
Beyond serving customers, Joseph is passionate about helping raise the standards of the detailing industry. He has spoken at Mobile Tech Expo, competed in national paint correction competitions, and founded DirtLab, an educational platform dedicated to helping detailers and service business owners improve their technical skills, marketing, systems, and long-term growth.
At home, Joseph is the proud father of two daughters, Angelina and Brooke. Family has always been one of his greatest motivations, and that perspective carries into the way he leads Lava GR—building a business centered on trust, integrity, continuous learning, and treating every customer’s vehicle with the same care he would expect for his own.
Today, Joseph continues to work alongside his team, investing in new technologies, advanced training, and innovative processes that help keep Lava GR at the forefront of the detailing industry. Professional Detail Technicians
Originally from Guatemala, Angel and Clely moved to Michigan with their young son to build a better future for their family. Although they are new to Michigan, they are not new to professional detailing.
Their experience, dedication, and genuine pride in their work have made them an essential part of the Lava GR team. As husband and wife, they bring exceptional communication, trust, and teamwork into every project they complete together.
Whether they are restoring heavily soiled interiors, performing paint enhancement, preparing fleet vehicles, or assisting with ceramic coating installations, their commitment to quality never changes.
Customers may only see the finished vehicle, but behind every detail are countless small decisions, careful inspections, and an unwavering commitment to doing things correctly. Angel and Clely embody that philosophy every day.
Outside the shop, they enjoy spending time with their five-year-old son while continuing to build a life in West Michigan.

Calvin Mossel and Andres Rivas are professionally trained mobile detailing technicians dedicated to delivering the same level of quality and craftsmanship that customers have come to expect from Lava GR Auto Detailing.
Under the direct mentorship of owner Joseph Stein, they have completed extensive hands-on training covering interior and exterior detailing, paint-safe washing techniques, paint correction fundamentals, ceramic coating preparation, customer service, and Lava GR’s standardized operating procedures. Before working independently, they demonstrated their ability to consistently meet our quality standards on real customer vehicles.
